Retrofit nennt man die Modernisierung und/oder den Ausbau einer bestehenden Anlage und wird meist dann ins Auge gefasst, wenn Ersatzteile nicht mehr verfügbar sind oder die Störungsanfälligkeit der Maschine zunimmt. Durch einen Retrofit kann der Betrieb der Anlage sichergestellt, die Produktivität erhöht und die Verfügbarkeit gesteigert werden.
Zuerst wird die Anlage genau analysiert, damit ein möglichst kurzer Produktionsunterbruch geplant werden kann.
